Health and Safety policy
Knightsbridge Movers Health and Safety Policy
Knightsbridge Movers is committed to providing a safe and healthy working environment for our employees, contractors, customers and members of the public who may be affected by our removal and relocation activities. This policy sets out our approach to managing health and safety across our operations, including domestic and commercial removals, packing, loading, transport and delivery.
Our Commitment to Health and Safety
We recognise that effective health and safety management is essential to the quality and reliability of our moving services. Senior management accepts overall responsibility for health and safety and is committed to maintaining high standards through clear procedures, regular monitoring and continual improvement.
Health and safety considerations form an integral part of our planning and decision making. We aim to prevent accidents, injuries and work-related ill health by identifying, assessing and controlling risks associated with manual handling, driving, lifting operations, use of equipment, and work in and around customers' premises.
Legal Compliance and Responsibilities
Knightsbridge Movers will comply with all applicable health and safety legislation and recognised industry best practice relevant to removal and relocation services. We will keep our procedures under review to reflect any changes in standards or regulations.
Management is responsible for providing appropriate resources, information, instruction, training and supervision to ensure that work is carried out safely. Employees are responsible for cooperating with the company on health and safety matters, following safe working practices, and reporting hazards, incidents or concerns without delay.
Risk Assessment and Safe Working Practices
Before any removal or related activity is carried out, suitable and sufficient risk assessments will be undertaken. These assessments will consider hazards such as manual handling, access issues, traffic movement, parking and loading, use of lifting aids, and environmental conditions inside and outside properties.
From these assessments we will develop and implement safe systems of work and method statements tailored to the tasks involved. Staff are briefed on these procedures and are expected to follow them at all times. Where conditions change on site, team leaders are authorised to pause work, reassess risks and agree safer methods where necessary.
Manual Handling and Use of Equipment
Manual handling is a core part of removal work and is a key focus of our safety arrangements. We provide training on correct lifting techniques, team lifting, and safe movement of bulky and heavy items such as furniture and appliances. Where reasonably practicable, mechanical aids such as sack trucks, trolleys and lifting equipment are used to reduce the risk of strain and injury.
Only trained and authorised personnel may use specialist equipment. All tools, vehicles and lifting aids are subject to regular inspection, maintenance and replacement when required. Defective or unsafe equipment must not be used and should be reported immediately to a supervisor.
Vehicle Safety and Driving Standards
Our vehicles are central to our service and are maintained to a high standard to ensure safety on the road and at loading points. Regular checks are carried out on brakes, tyres, lights, securing points and other safety-critical components.
Drivers receive guidance on safe driving techniques, route planning, loading and securing of goods, and working hours management. Loads are distributed and restrained in accordance with safe loading practices to prevent movement during transit. Drivers must observe all road traffic laws and drive in a manner that protects themselves, their colleagues, other road users and pedestrians.
Customer Premises and Public Safety
Our teams often work inside customers' homes, offices and shared spaces. We take care to protect both people and property by keeping work areas tidy, using floor and wall protection where appropriate, and ensuring that pathways and stairways remain as clear as possible.
Where work may affect members of the public, such as on pavements, shared entrances or car parks, we will plan access and egress routes, use warning signs where appropriate, and position vehicles carefully to minimise risk. We will cooperate with building managers, neighbours and other parties to maintain safe conditions during the move.
Information, Training and Supervision
All employees receive induction training covering our health and safety policy, emergency procedures, manual handling, safe use of equipment and expectations for behaviour on site and on the road. Additional role-specific training is provided for drivers, team leaders and staff using specialist equipment.
Supervisors are responsible for overseeing work on site, ensuring that procedures are followed and that any new risks are managed promptly. Refresher training and toolbox talks are used to reinforce key safety messages and address any emerging issues from incident reports or customer feedback.
Incident Reporting and Continuous Improvement
All accidents, near misses and dangerous occurrences must be reported as soon as possible to a supervisor or manager. We investigate incidents to identify root causes and implement corrective actions to prevent recurrence.
Health and safety performance is monitored through inspections, audits, feedback from staff and customers, and review of incident data. Lessons learned are incorporated into updated procedures, training materials and risk assessments.
Consultation and Review
We encourage open communication on health and safety matters and welcome suggestions from employees and customers on how we can improve our practices. Staff are consulted on changes that may affect their safety and are invited to participate in the development of procedures that relate to their work.
This health and safety policy is reviewed regularly and whenever there are significant changes to our operations, equipment or legal requirements. Updated versions are communicated to all employees and made available to customers on request.
By working together and maintaining a strong safety culture, Knightsbridge Movers aims to deliver reliable removal services while protecting the wellbeing of everyone involved in or affected by our activities.
